Regatta training

NorthEast skipper team at regatta training

It’s the end of the month October and, according to the weather, we have a stormy wind coming from south. In these areas also known as Jugo. Jugo is wind on the Adriatic Sea blowing from the south and southeast direction. It blows with a uniform speed, being the strongest at the open sea where it creates big waves. On average it lasts for a few days in the area of low air pressure (cyclone) developed in the western Mediterranean or in The Adriatic Sea. We have two types of Jugo - Cyclonic and Anticyclonic Jugo.

There was an internal arrangement between NorthEast skipper team that we have to take advantage of these conditions to do some serious training before one of the hardest Croatian offshore regattas called “Jabuka”.

The appointment took place on Sunday at 9 a.m. There was 8 of us skippers gathered in the marina. We decided to sail away from marina Veruda towards lighthouse “Porer” – also known as the southernmost part of Istrian peninsula. On average the wind blew at 40 knots, while the strongest wind impact that we measured was 52.7 knots.

For almost half an hour we were accompanied with a group of dolphins.

I think the best way to show you the situations at sea are the photos.

A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor!
