Spring sailing is raising in popularity among sailors. Every year more and more people are looking to go away to their sailing holiday sooner in the year because it has many benefits
· The prices are generally much lower
· The coastal cities are less crowded
· The weather is getting rapidly warmer and there’s plenty of wind
All things considered, spring sailing has its advantages and is a great choice for someone who want to squeeze in another sailing holiday during the year. And if you’re looking for a spring sailing destination, we have a recommendation for you.
Enough have been said about Croatia being one of the best sailing destinations in the world. But, we suggest to take another look into Croatia from a different angle.
As a spring sailing destination, Croatia has lots to offer. The sea is getting rapidly warmer so in March and April temperatures are around 20 degrees Celsius. By the end of April, it’s getting warmer and from the beginning of May sea is usually warm enough for swimming. That means that throughout most of the spring you can take a swim if you are ok with slightly colder sea.
The wind is another thing to consider for spring sailing in Croatia. Spring is Croatia is known for being windy and sunny; in other words, ideal for sailing.
Chartering a yacht in Croatia is available from March until October. Summer month are high season and June, July and August are months when renting a boat is most expensive.
If you’re on board about sailing in Croatia during spring, let’s see what each spring month has to offer and what you can expect:
Boat rentals in Croatia are available from March. That’s when the boats wake up from their winter slumber and start to get prepared for sailing once again. Prices in March are very good and you would be able to get a boat fairly cheap.
Sailing in March is recommended for more experienced sailors. The weather can be harsh sometimes because March is predominantly winter month. Sea is fairly cold although someone who is a bit braver could take a swim.
March is a month when it’s still pretty cold outside but, luckily, Croatia has a way around this. Although it may be not ideal for sailing in the north Adriatic, the south Adriatic is ideal in March.
And that’s not only because the boats are very cheap and famous Croatian cities and islands like Dubrovnik, Vis, Split, Hvar and Brač are way less crowded, it is because the temperatures in the south Adriatic are very different from the rest of the country and you can be able to have a great sunny sailing week with temperatures above 15 degrees Celsius.
April is the first real spring month. That means that there are more sunny days and it’s getting warmer and warmer. In April in Croatia you might get a full sailing week with temperatures above 20 degrees Celsius with plenty of wind.
Because the sea is not warm yet, you might aim for sailing later in April when the sea picks up the temperature and there’s plenty of wind. Because of the sea temperatures, we suggest to look into renting a boat in Dalmatia in April because sea in the South Adriatic is warmer than in the North.
May might be the best spring sailing month of all, and considering many advantages, best sailing month of the entire year.
May in Croatia is beautiful, sunny and just like a perfect month for sailing should look like. The temperatures of both, sea and air are getting pretty high so you would be able to swim and to wear short sleeved shirts no problem.
Next advantage is that it’s still spring so the prices are still lower comparing them to the high sailing season in Croatia.
And you are able to sailing anywhere in Croatia because there’s many boats available and it’s warm enough to go sailing in the north Adriatic as well. Our recommendation is to go sailing anywhere in Croatia in May and we suggest taking a closer look into Istria and Dalmatia, two of the most famous Croatian sailing destinations.
Rent a boat in Istria and have a spring sailing Croatian adventure of a lifetime.
All thing considered, June is a spring month. The summer doesn’t come until the June 21st so there is a big chunk of June that is still, technically, spring. The thing is, the weather is so warm and beautiful in June that many take it as first month of summer.
That brings steeper prices and many boats being booked for month in advance.
June is mesmerizing for sailing, no doubt, but it’s raising in popularity quickly because it has that warmth of summer months with a bit lower sailing prices. That’s why many boats are booked in advance and your best bet is to look for last minute deals. Take a look at our last minute sailing deals in Croatia for best sailing time in June.
Other than that, our recommendation is to look at the beginning of June to go sailing. There is a little difference when it comes to sea and air temperatures and you will be able to find better deals. If you’re wondering where to go sailing, once again, whole coastal Croatia is available and you just can’t go wrong.
Spring sailing in Croatia is definitely a great choice. Sailing in spring in Croatia is a great experience, especially if you are a fan of less crowd and better prices.
